Public Safety E-Comm Radio Building Amplification System

City of Surrey By-Law No: 15740

An Occupancy Permit Requirement

The City of Surrey requires that all new or renovated buildings higher than 12 meters with more than 5000 square meters of floor space and/or with basements exceeding 1000 square meters shall support adequate coverage within the structure to allow uninterrupted communication with the E-Comm radio system.

The Emergency Communication (E-Comm) radio system provides all emergency service communication for the lower mainland. The City of Surrey requires that there is a need for certain buildings and structures to have internal radio support systems to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the City’s fire services, law enforcement and other emergency-related radio communications networks essential to public safety and emergency response.

The Site survey RF test should be conducted close to the building’s completion. The exterior of the building/s must have been completed and the interior must be at a near completion stage. The RF tests are conducted both on the inside and outside of the building/s and the results of this test will be used to determine compliance with the specified by-law.
